At approximately 9:35 p.m. Feb. 27, police heard multiple gunshots in the area of Center and Main Street in downtown Cedar City.
A vehicle, allegedly driven by Anthony, was observed by officers fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit began. The vehicle crashed, ending the pursuit. Officers were then able to safely take Anthony into custody.
A witness originally reported seeing a subject fleeing from the area of the pursuit on foot. The Utah Highway Patrol Helicopter was called upon to assist with the pursuit and containment of the area. This information was quickly dispelled and officers concluded that Anthony was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Police report that Anthony expressed both suicidal and homicidal intentions. Evidence was recovered that supported those statements.
It was determined that the suspect did allegedly shoot at a moving vehicle in the area from which it had fled. The two occupants of the vehicle were not injured, but said the suspect fired multiple gunshots at them. The victims appear to have been chosen by the suspect at random.
Anthony was treated at Valley View Medical Center. After his release, he was booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility on two counts of attempted homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, consumption of alcohol by a minor, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, discharging firearms from a vehicle, reckless endangerment, failure to stop/fleeing and several other minor traffic offenses.
