To the Editor: All emergency personnel deserve our appreciation

Dear Editor,

I have recently read many articles that pertain to the accident that happened in New Harmony back in July or August. But the most recent article about the single EMT irked me a little.

The article made it sound like there was only one person there that did all the work. But what about the many others; the paramedic, EMT’s, firefighter, and police officers that were there that day?

I am sure they were not just standing there letting the single EMT do all the work. Last time I checked “team” wasn’t spelled with an “I.”

So why put one EMT on a pedestal?

I’m sure the family is very thankful that she was close by and had the training to help him. But I am also sure they are thankful for the other lives that were saved that day by the other paramedics, EMTs, and firefighters that were there too.

I am grateful that they were there to help my family when we needed them. And have a piece of mind knowing that I can call day or night if I ever need them again.

There are many men and women that are in a field that requires them to go out everyday and to be exposed to extremes. Sometimes sitting in a smashed vehicle with patients for several minutes while the fire department cut them out; or helping persons of any age that need medical assistance.

We don’t need to recognize each individual but we need to recognize all of Iron County ambulance, fire, and police for all that they do in our community.
