Chamber plans awards banquet

CEDAR CITY – The 42nd Chamber of Commerce Night of Excellence will be at the Crystal Inn next Thursday, and will include a banquet, awards presentation, and installation of the 2010 Chamber Board.

The evening will begin at 7 p.m. and tickets are $30 per person. The meal will be provided by Bard’s Food and Drink Establishment. Chamber Office Manager Barbara Wolf said the event will have an “Academy Awards” theme.

The Chamber will present awards to 12 individuals and businesses, who were selected after suggestions were solicited from the community.

Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Cedar City will be named Business of the Year, State Bank of Southern Utah will be recognized with the Customer Service of the Year award, and Crystal Inn will be recognized with the Tourist Travel award. The Cedar City Lions Club has been chosen as Organization of the Year.

Educator of the Year award will go to Conrad Aitken, Senior Citizen of the year will go to M.H. Kahler, Gene Hotinger will be named Citizen of the Year, and Stephanie Somers will receive the honor of Young Citizen of the Year.

Pan Branin will be named Woman of the Year and Nate Esplin will receive the Man of the Year award, while the Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Dr. Robert Corry.

A new award will be given this year, to someone chosen by Chamber CEO Scott Jolley, and that award and winner will be announced at the banquet.

Sponsors of the awards include Wells Fargo, State Bank of Southern Utah, Zions Bank, State Farm Insurance (Sherrie Hansen and Suzette Cardon), Star Sign and Banner, Dr. Brian Tavoian, Kolob Regional Care & Rehabilitation, the Cedar City-Brian Head Tourism Bureau, Allstate Insurance (Mark Nelson and Mike Haight), Southern Utah University, Dan Roberts Coldwell Banker, and Rocky Mountain Power.

Wolf said new Chamber Board members to be installed include Rick Boxberger, Holly Porter, and Teresa Harrison.

The new president will be Chris McCormick, president-elect will be Derek Morton, and Zurl Thornock will be past-president.

Other board members are Sherrie Hansen, Kathy Johnson, Brennan Wood, Ron Chandler, Maria Twitchell, Craig Isom, Matt Sorensen, Lois Bulloch, Dolly Trujillo-Wearn, Mike France, Dean O’Driscoll, and Glen Barker. Linda Webb will be the new Women in Business President.
