“We work hard and it shows,” Canyon View coach Dallas Lowry said.
Their hard work was in evidence as the Falcons breezed through the first six matches before Cedar’s Colby Lloyd threw Canyon View’s Braxton Duncan in the 112 weight category to put the first points of the night on Cedar’s side of the scoreboard.
Though after the first several rounds the final score was in little danger of tipping toward Cedar’s side, some intensely suspenseful battles took place and Cedar came back to win five of the remaining seven matches.
The 135 weight category match between the Falcons’ Cody Miller and the Redmen’s Larson Cottam pushed through until a power outage engulfed the arena in blackness for several minutes. Once the match commenced again, Cottam finished his early lead with an 8-0 decision win.
The next two matches provided Canyon View with a couple heartbreaking losses as Cedar’s Chris Lucky and Josh Thompson won the 140 and 145 weight class matches after pushing though three rounds of tied scores.
While Canyon View is in the top spot to win region, Cedar High is still confident in its chances.
“We know what we need,” Cedar coach John Dodds said. “I think region is going to be our best meet yet.”
