Freshman Emily Morris of Cedar High swam away from her first state championship meet as the only state champion from any Southern Utah school by taking first place in the 100 Breast Stroke with a time of 1:09.62. Morris also took second place in the 50 free race with a time of 25.39.
The Cedar girls beat the hot shot Desert Hills team with a fourth place overall finish with 89 points to Desert Hills’ 72. Judge Memorial took home the championship with 144.
Canyon View finished with 24 points, which was good enough for ninth place out of the 16 teams that competed.
The Cedar girls’ 200-medley relay team took second place in the event with a time of 1:57.41, falling just under Park City’s first place time of 1:54.22. Becca Barclay pulled a sixth place finish in the 200 free race with a time of 2:08.47.
The Cedar boys’ team took seventh overall followed by Canyon View with respective scores of 70 and 45. First place went to Juan Diego with 109. Park City and Wasatch filled out the rest of the top three. Desert Hills proved its swimming skill by coming in fourth place.
The Cedar boys’ medley relay team’s time of 1:44.34 took second place behind Juan Diego. Spencer Sardoni took second place in the 200 free behind Park City’s Griffin Pool and Rod Wooly rounded out Cedar’s state place holders by taking sixth in the 200 IM.
Canyon View’s Riley Brown took the only placed spot for the Falcons with a 23.28 sixth place time for the 50 free race.
