First off, the teams are big.
“We have 20 girls and 25 guys on the teams,” Brown said. “It’s good to see this amount of excitement for the sport. It’s really unprecedented.”
The build of the team is looking strong as well.
“We didn’t lose too many players last year,” Brown said. “We have lots of great returning players and some great new startups.”
Training for the team has been a positive experience.
“Every practice I can tell that the team is getting better,” Brown said. “It’s giving us a lot of hope for the season.”
New changes to the state setup has eliminated the 3A division, which may put a bit of a damper on Canyon View’s chances at a championship, it all depends on how the brackets set up. Normally playing against only 3A schools, Canyon View will have to expand its competitive scope to allow other, bigger, teams to compete.
Still, Brown exudes confidence and has high expectations for his team.
“Depending on what division we are assigned, and we hope to be in the mid to upper division, we could take it very far,” Brown said.
Canyon View’s first challenge will be against cross-town rival Cedar High at the Canyon View/Cedar High tournament Friday and Saturday.
