CEDAR CITY – The Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery will display work by 13 students at the Senior B.F.A. Exhibit that is opening with a reception today at 7 p.m.

The show will continue through May 1. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

The work in the exhibit is the culmination of the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. This degree prepares students for professional studio careers, teaching and graduate studies in a studio discipline.

Students will present a variety of mediums including web design, motion graphics, illustrations, photography, painting and printmaking.

The students participating in the exhibit have had a variety of experiences in this program and have many goals after graduation. Heidi Jorgensen, a graphic designer, will present handmade books.

“(This program) has gotten me outside of my comfort zone and has pushed me beyond,” she said.

After graduation, Jorgensen hopes to get into the publication business or to design board games.

Caitlyn Hardman, an oil painter, will present a series of paintings based on the collage technique.

“(I have learned) how to work with deadlines and to think critically about my art,” Hardman said.

With her B.F.A. degree in Art Education, Hardman wants to jump into the classroom and begin teaching middle school art.

Dan Gill, a graphic designer, will present motion picture graphics. After graduation, Gill hopes to continue working in the graphic design field, possibly in movie branding or publishing.

“I’ve appreciated getting to know the professors and my classmates in the small classes. We have become colleagues,” Gill said.
