The Banana Sandwich’s drummer and singer, Robert Lawrence, said that more than anything, they were surprised at their third place win.
“We really didn’t expect too much, even though we were told we had it in us to do well,” Lawrence said. “But we worked hard.”
“(Winning) says a lot about the caliber of our CV band,” CVHS PTA President Tammy Banks said. “We are pretty excited for them.”
The band has only been playing together since January, Lawrence said.
The other members of The Banana Sandwich are Brennon Peterson on guitar and vocals, Russell Smith on guitar, Katie Lee on the keyboard and Riley Brown on the bass guitar. They are all CVHS students ranging from sophomores to seniors.
Currently, the band is working on creating more original songs. They want to get some local gigs and just have fun playing together for the love of music, Lawrence said.
“I’m not looking to get anywhere with the band right now,” Lawrence said.
He is planning on leaving on an LDS mission sometime in the fall.
Their third place win at the state PTA competition gave the band the opportunity to professionally record one of their songs and have 100 CDs of their recording made.
Lawrence said that people always want to know where they got their band name, The Banana Sandwich. He said they thought it would be fun to come up with something completely random, so he just threw the name out there. At first, they just blew it off, but eventually everyone grew to like it and it stuck.
Keep your ears peeled for a future performance by CVHS’s very own Battle of the Bands champions, The Banana Sandwich.
