Cedar’s softball team fell out of the winner’s bracket and was unable to wade through the consolation bracket during last week’s state playoffs.

Their first game last Thursday in the winner’s bracket was against Bear River. Amanda Johnson took the mound and was able to keep Bear River off the board until the third inning, when everything fell apart for Cedar’s defense. Bear River pushed through 12 runs in that one inning.

Though Cedar had five hits for the game, including a home run from Kaitlyn Friese, Bear River easily took the 14-3 victory.

Cedar then found itself playing American Leadership, which found its own way to the consolation round after losing to Canyon View then beating Juab.

The game was an exercise in field management for the Lady Reds. They managed a single run in the second with two more in the third while keeping ALA to one run up to the sixth inning where they managed one more. Cedar’s defense was perfect while American Leadership racked up three errors. This 3-2 victory kept the Lady Reds alive for another day.

On Friday the Lady Reds played the Wasatch Wasps and though they had a good hitting game, they couldn’t convert that to a win.

Johnson did her part keeping the solid Wasatch offense to nine runs, though that did include two home runs from the Wasp’s Allie Jepson and one from Rachel Kohler. Cedar had four more hits with 14, and played a cleaner game with only three errors to Wasatch’s five.

Rachel Nakken, Jessica Nakken, and Brakel Yardley all had triples and it looked like the Reds would take it with a one point lead after the sixth inning, but Wasatch came out in the seventh scoring five runs to Cedar’s one and making the final score Wasatch 11, Cedar 8.

Bear River went on to take the state championship, beating out North Sanpete twice for the chance.

Cedar’s season ends with a final record of 14 wins to 8 losses with a pair of impressive winning streaks, one five game and one six, as well as winning 12 of their last 15 games.
