CEDAR CITY – In the late afternoon on Friday a team of exceptional athletes participating in the World T.E.A.M. Sports Sea to Shining Sea bike trek will stop in Rotary Centennial Veterans Memorial Park in Cedar City as they ride across the country.

Riders from all branches of the military will be represented, many who are injured or disabled Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. There will be a short program in their honor as soon as they arrive.

Organizers estimate the groups’ arrival time in Cedar City to be between 4 and 5:30 p.m.

The goal of the ride is to honor the courage of our service men and women, the strength of the American spirit, and to challenge perceptions of how we view athletes.

The ride started in San Francisco on May 22 and will span 63 days and 4,000 miles. The team of veteran riders will cycle through deserts, mountain passes and historical landmarks. The ride will conclude in Virginia Beach on July 24.

Local Cedar City business owners including State Farm agent Suzette Cardon have been instrumental in coordinating logistics for the visit to Cedar City.

“We invite the community to come show their support of the riders as they enter our beautiful city,” she said.
