Julie Westwood, of the CHS Grad Night committee, said the event will run from 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday and include a wide variety of activities and games including a racquetball tournament, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, swimming activities, climbing, relay races on the indoor track, ping pong, games like Deal or No Deal, a photo booth, Guitar Hero, laser tag, and much more.
“The kids seem to be really excited,” she said. “I think it’s going to be really fun.”
There will be drawings throughout the night, as well as cash prizes for some of the event winners.
“Everyone should go away with something,” Westwood said.
The theme is “Hang 10.”
Westwood said the senior class used to do a senior trip and would go to places like California, but because of the liability they started doing Grad Night several years ago. The event provides a safe environment for the class to have one last celebration together, she said.
The cost is $25 per student, which includes a photo and a T-shirt. The price goes up to $35 at the door and T-shirts are not guaranteed.
The Grad Night committee is comprised of parents and there will be a lot of parent chaperones there helping to make it an event the kids will really enjoy.
“It should hopefully be a night that they will remember,” she said.
Westwood said the event would not be possible without the tremendous support of the community.
The university has been a huge help. They’ve never done anything like this before, but they are providing staff for the night, renting out the facility, and being very accommodating.
Grocery stores and pizza places are donating food, and many other businesses and individuals have contributed with prize items or funds.
“Honestly we could not do it without these businesses and these individuals and it’s greatly appreciated,” Westwood said.
