His early years were spent in New Harmony, Utah where he learned the ranching business, which continued throughout his life. His education began in a two-room school house later taking him to Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City where he met Luree Sargent. They were married June 14, 1949 in the St. George Temple.
Eldon continued his education at the University of Utah where he graduated with a degree in Banking and Finance and began working for First Security Bank. Eldon later helped start a new bank in Cedar City, State Bank of Southern Utah, where he worked from its beginning in 1957 until his retirement.
Eldon served in the U.S. Army with the occupational forces in Japan in 1946 and 1947.
Other involvements include President of the Utah Bankers Association, member of the Rotary Club, President of the Iron County Cattlemen, board member of PCA, Chairman of the Central Iron County Water Conservancy District and member of the Cedar City Council.
Eldon was active in the LDS church, serving in many callings including Bishop, Counselor in the Stake Presidency, Temple Ordinance Worker and Sealer in the St. George Temple. Eldon and Luree served a mission for the LDS church in Australia and New Guinea.
Survivors include his wife, Luree; son Bradford Craig, daughter Mary Ellen Westwood (John) and a son Eric Jon (Brenda); 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Eldon was preceded in death by a son Eldon William Jr., known as Billy; his parents Eldon L. and Eva; and his sisters, Norma Young, Eva Lou and Amilee Schmutz.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday, July 12 in the 17th Ward, 256 S. 900 West in Cedar City, Utah. Visitations were Sunday evening and Monday morning at Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 N. 300 West in Cedar City. Interment was in the New Harmony Cemetery, under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
