Applicants should choose one movement of a classical, romantic, or contemporary concerto; two movements if using a shorter Baroque concerto. Audition pieces must have commercially available orchestral parts.
Contact Dr. Hal Campbell, OSU librarian, at 586-8414 to help identify if orchestra parts are available.
All auditions are to be recorded on a digital CD or a high quality type II tape with accompaniment. The accompaniment is essential; auditions without accompaniment will not be considered. Audition forms are available online on the OSU website at www.orchestraofsouthernutah.org.
Recorded auditions are to be submitted along with a $20 non-refundable audition fee to OSU Executive Director Pete Akins no later than 5 p.m. Sept. 3.
Mail entries to Pete Akins, Orchestra of Southern Utah, 2111 N. Main St. No. 1, Cedar City, Utah 84720. Recordings submitted to anyone other than Akins will not be considered.
Primary auditions will be judged blind; the recordings will be numbered and judged without any identification of the person performing.
Six to eight finalists will be selected from the recordings to audition live for a panel of judges on Oct. 2. Live auditions require a piano accompaniment. Finalists will be notified by letter as to time and location. Soloists selected to perform with OSU will receive a $50 honorarium.
For further questions, contact Akins at (435) 590-4266 or at peteakins@tlc2.org.
