Wanda was born on July 24, 1917 in Toquerville, Utah to Martin and Anna Laura Kleinman Anderson. She came into this life with her twin brother, Wilmer. They were the babies of the family and were welcomed by two older sisters, Virginia and Dorothy.
She grew up and had an idyllic childhood in Toquerville, and graduated from Hurricane High School.
She married Blaine Wood in Toquerville, Utah on Oct. 24, 1941, and they made their home in Cedar City, Utah.
Mom was a magnificent waitress at the old Goodie Garden, Hotel El Escalante, Hughes Cafe, Sulivan’s Cafe, and the Sugar Loaf Cafe. She made many friends and taught countless young people how to wait tables and meet the public.
After she retired, she became a volunteer at Valley View Medical Center for over 20 years, which she loved. She also volunteer at the Utah Shakespearean Festival, helping to prepare thousands of pieces of mailings.
She was honored as Senior Citizen of the Year in February 2005.
Mom is known for her love of antique furniture, which she and Dad delighted in refinishing, and she loved to collect antique dishes and silverware. She did beautiful needlepoint, cross-stitch and knitting, and was an avid sports fan, in particular the NBA and the Utah Jazz.
Wanda and Blaine loved their cabin at Duck Creek Village and enjoyed having family and friends visit. The evening was not complete there without a game of cards by the fireplace.
Mom was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served as a visiting teacher.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Boyd D.) Redington; son Robert Courtney Wood (Phyllis-deceased); grandchildren Kirk A. (Dede) Orton, Kevin W. (Becky) Orton, Camille (Charles) Woolsey, and Wm. Codi (Illianna) Wood; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many step-greats and grands; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine; son Christopher Martin (Melody) Wood; twin brother Wilmer Anderson; sisters Virginia Hansen and Dorothy Earl.
Grateful thanks to Dr. Thomas Marshall who was Mom’s guardian angel for many years, the staff at Valley View Medical Center, staff at Kolob Regional Care & Rehabilitation Center, and staff at Southern Utah Home Care & Hospice for their tender, loving care of our mom.
