The “T-Bird Zone,” a half-hour television sports show that highlights interviews with SUU coaches and players and provides weekly highlights and updates on SUU sports, premiered Friday night at 9:30 p.m. on KCSG-TV.

A new episode will air weekly on Fridays at 9:30 p.m. on KCSG-TV with reruns on SUTV Cable 9 in Cedar City. The “T-Bird Zone” will be pre-recorded during the week in the SUTV Studios and on-location to help fans follow SUU sports.

Ken Beazer, SUU Athletic Director, arranged for the show in order to showcase all the sports in the athletic department. During particular seasons, specific coaches and players will be more prominently featured such as last week with an extended interview with Ed Lamb, SUU’s head football coach, as he discussed the upcoming season and the important games against Laramie and San Diego.

Great Western Conference 2010 Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year, Tysson Poots was also a featured interview.

The show is hosted by Kyle Cottam, SUU assistant Sports Information director. Final production and editing is by SUTV Station Manager Lee Byers.

SUTV reporters and photographers will record and edit interviews and highlights. Away game footage, which has not been readily available before, will be recorded for discussion and analysis during the show.

During the fall much of the focus will be on the in-season sports of football, volleyball, soccer and men’s and women’s cross-country. SUTV Adviser Jon Smith said this is a great opportunity for broadcast students to produce material for a commercial station and practice skills in sports broadcasting.

Another opportunity for broadcasting students will be providing live video action during games for the new video scoreboard in Eccles Coliseum.

KCSG-TV Programming Director Amy Palmer said “The T-Bird Zone” will be a great compliment to the live football games it will be airing this season beginning with the San Diego game at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
